Often we use a faux treatment such as a color wash as the background for a mural. For example, a color washed blue sky with a mural of a garden scene. That is now considered a faux treatment and a mural. These treatments are used in hand painted furiture.
Trompe L'oeil ("to trick the eye") can be used to create some dramatic effects. It could be a coffee table and you want the illusion of an open book painted on the table. The image on the right is an example of one of my Trompe L'oeil pieces. The plate(s) and lace are painted on a faux finished flat wall. Click the photo for a larger version.
This is a list of some of the techniques available. Many of these techniques are used on walls and furniture and floors.
I would enjoy sharing this with you upon any one hour appointment to look over your possible project. Due to the demand for artwork and Interior design Faux finishes are only available on furniture and small powder rooms only. I no longer take on large faux finish projects.
