Ceilings... The sky's the limit!

Do you have those plain vanilla white ceilings in your home? Do you have new or older crown moldings or perhaps thinking of putting some crown up? If you said yes to any of these questions then I suggest you put some color on those ceilings to make that crown stand out and say look at me!

Let's take this scenario... you just picked a gorgeous tan color for the walls and now it is time to paint the ceiling.  You can do many things.. one is to take the tan and have it broken down by 1/2 or 3/4 and put that on the ceiling.  Or go to the other extreme and make the tan darker and apply that.  The darker looks best on 9 foot and taller ceilings.

Remember putting a color on the ceiling will always be darker than the color sample chip you bring home. Always do test swatches on the surface you are going to paint.

Why not faux the ceiling?  Let's take a wall color - say a darker slate blue. Now you can apply a faux such as a color wash in the wall blue and white on the ceiling.  Or if using earth tones,  perhaps a faux on the ceiling will create a villa look. That is great in kitchens and dining rooms!

Decorative art on the ceiling in fun too!  Don't forget a medallion and why not faux that also! Coffered ceiling are a wonderful space to do a faux treatment too. You can create a coffered look by having trim put up on the ceiling and painting a faux or flat finish in the trimmed out area.

Or be daring... if you have sage green walls why not try a ceiling color in a new color.  Perhaps you have a yellow sofa, green chairs and burgundy accents pieces and colors in the room.  Why not paint the ceiling yellow and the walls green? 

Have fun and remember it's just paint so if you make a mistake or don't like the color - then paint over it. Good luck and don't be afraid to use you imagination!
